Workplace Holiday Gifting

The holidays are here and there is always someone to say THANK YOU for the past year! If you still need to pick up one last gift before the end of the year, I’ve compiled some recommendations that are go-tos for anyone on my team.

For a Boss

Gift-giving in the workplace can be daunting! We, of course, want to be inclusive of all team members and the holidays they celebrate at this time of year. Especially if you’re new to a team or workplace, you might not know what to give your boss during the holidays. As you grow in your role and get to know your team, personalizing gifts to their personalities can always be a hit!

Latisha’s Suggestions:

  • Journal for their notes and project plans

  • Book on a topic they enjoy

  • Insulated Coffee Mug that complements their personality

  • Gift Card to a store or restaurant they frequent (i.e., Starbucks or a local small business).

For a Colleague

Coworkers can often become friends, and can be some of the most fun people to shop for during the holidays! We learn our coworkers' interests and hobbies as we get to know them. As we get to know new colleagues, whatever that initial common interest that brought you together can be inspiration for a thoughtful gift. I like to keep track of comments coworkers make throughout the year when they mention something they “must have” but won’t splurge on — these items or experiences can be a fun surprise!

Latisha’s Suggestions:

  • A shared experience, like a team meal at a favorite restaurant

  • Blanket or scarf for winter coziness

  • Statement piece of jewelry for their wardrobe

  • Wine or Spirit to enjoy (be mindful of their preferences and if they drink)

For a Direct Report

Gifting to a direct report may take some time to brainstorm! Getting creative with gifts for those who report to you can be a fun way to thank them for their hard work. I always like to ask around to see if there’s anything on my teammates' wishlists that I might not be aware of; for example, a new hobby, life change (like a new house), or upcoming trip. These can be great inspiration points!

Latisha’s Suggestions:

  • Art related to a recent vacation they took

  • Personalized 2023 Planner for their goals

  • Plant or flowers if they have a green thumb

  • Cookbook for the cooks on your team

Latisha’s Holiday Gifting Suggestions

I hope these suggestions are helpful. If there is anything you believe I should add to list for next year, let me know in the comments. Happy Holidays!
